NATO Allies Boost Defense Spending with U.S. Defense Companies

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker discusses President Donald Trump’s NATO summit achievements, including increased allied defense investments and collaborations with American defense firms.

Trump’s efforts at the NATO summit in Turkey highlighted agreements where European allies are expanding defense procurement, with a focus on U.S. defense companies.

The White House announced $3 billion in joint ventures between U.S. defense firms and European partners, aimed at strengthening the Atlantic defense industrial base. This aligns with the administration’s push for NATO members to raise defense expenditures.

Lockheed Martin will establish a Patriot missiles sustainment facility in Europe, enhancing NATO’s air and missile defense capabilities. The project involves the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden, providing regional maintenance for Patriots, which have been heavily deployed in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Lockheed Martin will also partner with German defense company Rheinmetall to co-produce the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) in Germany. This initiative aims to meet demand for locally manufactured weapons and strengthen NATO’s European members, with production expected to begin next year.

RTX will collaborate with European firms, including German manufacturer Diehl Defence and Dutch suppliers, to double production of Stinger missiles, a shoulder-fired surface-to-air system used by 24 countries, including 10 NATO members.

Boeing will partner with Rheinmetall-Italy to expand production and sustainment of its Small Diameter Bomb for European markets.

Anduril will work with Polish defense company PGZ to produce surface-launched Barracuda-500M cruise missiles in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The goal is to increase localization of the supply chain, using primarily European components for the Barracuda-500M.
