In 2014, k.d. lang invited Neko Case and Laura Veirs to collaborate on a trio album. The artists embraced the idea, beginning work in Portland for several years. They formed the supergroup case/lang/veirs, which toured after releasing a self‑titled record in 2016. On the 10th anniversary of that release, they announced a deluxe edition and debuted an unreleased track.
Neko Case authored the new track “Accidental Tattoo,” which reflects the idea of hearing beyond the lyrics and personalizing the words. Her expressive lead vocal sits atop a rich instrumental arrangement, while k.d. lang and Laura Veirs provide subtle backing harmonies. In a press release, k.d. lang explained:
“Accidental Tattoo” emerged from an unexpected creative moment shared by the three of us a few years ago. Neko wrote the lyrics, while Laura and I arranged the poetry, weaving it into melodies and music. I then collaborated closely with Larry Goldings on production to bring the song to its final form, as you hear it now.

Later this year, case/lang/veirs will issue an album featuring live renditions of every song from the original 2016 LP, plus the new track “Accidental Tattoo.” The release is scheduled for September 4 on Anti.
