Netanyahu Accuses Iran of Attempting to Kill One of His Sons

Netanyahu’s allegation follows a US‑Israeli strike on Tehran that killed Iran’s supreme leader and four family members.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has alleged that Iran attempted to assassinate one of his sons, providing no further details on the timing, location, or the specific son targeted.

The claim, made on Monday, comes as Netanyahu’s coalition lags behind in opinion polls ahead of October’s general election, following a joint US‑Israeli offensive against Iran.

A joint US‑Israeli strike on Tehran killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and four members of his family, including his daughter Boshra and his 14‑month‑old granddaughter Zahra, marking the start of the conflict.

According to The Jerusalem Post, Netanyahu made the accusation during a telephone interview with Channel 14, a conservative Israeli broadcaster known for its supportive coverage of the government.

“This is an unbelievable case. Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to murder him, tried to murder one of my sons,” Netanyahu said.

The remarks were made in response to reports that an Israeli security agency had refused to assign a protection detail to Gadi Eisenkot, the former army chief who is competing closely with Netanyahu for the premiership ahead of the election.

Netanyahu expressed support for providing Eisenkot with round‑the‑clock protection, describing such security measures as “not a luxury”.

“Without that, [the Iranians] will succeed,” he added.

Netanyahu, who has two sons and a daughter, was granted extended personal protection for his family in July, according to The Jerusalem Post.

His eldest son, Yair, 35, has spent considerable time in Miami, United States, since early 2024, sparking domestic debate over the public expense of protecting him.

Iran has vowed retaliation for the assassinations of Khamenei and his family members.

Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba, was appointed Supreme Leader one week after his father’s death.

Mojtaba Khamenei has remained absent from public view since his appointment, though he issued a statement during his father’s funeral ceremonies pledging to “avenge the blood” of the late leader.
