A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has barred the Department of Justice from acquiring state voter registration lists in an effort to identify noncitizens. Voting rights groups had challenged the initiative, warning that federal data systems have previously contained errors that could result in eligible citizens being wrongly removed from electoral rolls.
