After a closely watched negotiation, the New England Patriots and cornerback Christian Gonzalez have finalized a four-year contract extension.
The agreement is valued at $135 million, including $102 million guaranteed, cementing Gonzalez as the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
Selected 17th overall in the 2023 draft, Gonzalez spent the offseason pursuing a new deal, raising questions about his availability for the season opener against Seattle. With the contract now settled, he is fully expected to take the field.
At 24 years old, Gonzalez earned second-team AP All-Pro honors in 2024 and was named a Pro Bowler in 2025. During the regular season, he recorded 10 passes defensed in 14 games, adding seven passes defensed, a forced fumble, and an interception across New England’s four postseason contests.
The 2026 season will commence with New England hosting Seattle on Wednesday night at 8:20 p.m. ET, broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
