With just two games remaining in the regular season, the New York Liberty will host the Atlanta Dream in consecutive matchups that could significantly impact their playoff positioning.

However, a complication arises for the Liberty, as they recently completed a road contest in Toronto on Sunday afternoon.

This tight turnaround introduces additional complexity, as the Liberty control their own playoff destiny but will likely be battling fatigue heading into a crucial regular-season contest.

A favorable outcome could allow the Liberty to secure a top-four seed and first-round home-court advantage. Currently holding a 1-0 lead in the season series, New York would also overtake Atlanta if both teams finish with identical records.

Regardless of their rest situation, the Dream remain a formidable opponent. Atlanta boasts the third-highest net rating in the WNBA and is one of only two teams ranking in the top five for both offensive and defensive efficiency this season.

Atlanta also excels in situational execution, leading the league in points in the paint and ranking second in fast-break points, second-chance points, and points off turnovers. Conversely, the Liberty have battled turnover issues all season, which will be problematic in what is expected to be a highly physical matchup.

The Liberty have historically struggled with rest disadvantages, posting a 7-7 straight-up record and a 3-11 record against the spread in such scenarios. Given their recent grueling schedule of three games in four nights, with two on the road, fatigue is expected to be a significant factor.

The Dream are aware that these upcoming games serve as playoff previews, and I anticipate they will be fully prepared to capitalize on New York’s fatigue.
