Newcastle United edging closer to sign Republic of Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool

Newcastle United is in advanced negotiations to sign Republic of Ireland forward Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool.

The 27‑year‑old spent the latter half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and still has over one year left on her Liverpool contract.

This implies that the second‑tier Newcastle side would be expected to pay a fee to secure Kiernan, who has been with Liverpool for five years and signed a contract extension in 2025.

She has scored 23 goals in 76 appearances for Liverpool, playing a pivotal role in the club’s 2022 WSL 2 title triumph and finishing as the team’s top scorer with 14 goals.

Prior to Liverpool, Kiernan made over 40 appearances for West Ham United in the WSL after starting her career at Shelbourne.

Kiernan has earned 38 caps for the Republic of Ireland since her debut in 2017.

Nevertheless, she has struggled for regular playing time under Liverpool manager Gareth Taylor, starting only once in the WSL before moving to Forest in January.

Liverpool also bolstered their attacking options this summer by signing Germany forward Vivien Endemann from Wolfsburg.

Kiernan would add attacking depth to Newcastle, which has made six signings in a busy transfer window as it aims to challenge for the WSL 2 title.
