Nigeria’s Super Eagles snatched a 3‑3 draw against Russia in stoppage time at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, overcoming a two‑goal deficit.
The Tuesday match saw several Nigerian players withdrawn, with coach Eric Chelle fielding a makeshift side that fought hard to avoid repeating last week’s loss to Guinea‑Bissau.
Veterans Moses Simon and Kelechi Iheanacho led the attack; Iheanacho opened the scoring with a low‑drive from the edge of the box in the 10th minute, but Russia levelled through a defensive slip by Emmanuel Fernandez, with Lechi Sadulaev finishing on 30 minutes.
Just before halftime, Matvey Kislyak put Russia ahead 2‑1 after converting a deflected cross, and Aleksey Miranchuk extended the lead to 3‑1 early in the second half when his effort slipped past debutant keeper Samuel James.
Nigeria responded with substitutions; Osayande Peter Edokpolor pulled one back with a deflected curler in the 78th minute, and Adams levelled in stoppage time to secure the draw and avoid defeat in the final international‑break fixture.
The three goals conceded in successive games marked the first such occurrence under Chelle, who now has six draws in 31 matches as Nigeria’s head coach.
