Noah Kahan Rebukes White House for Unauthorized Use of “American Cars” in Trump‑Era Promo

The White House paired Noah Kahan’s song “American Cars” with images of President Trump touring General Motors’ flagship testing facility.

Noah Kahan has stated unequivocally that he would never endorse the use of his music to promote the Trump administration.

On Monday, the White House shared an Instagram carousel showing President Trump’s visit to General Motors’ flagship test site in Michigan. During the visit, he highlighted his contentious auto‑industry tariffs and pumped his fist while observing a drag race. The post was set to Noah Kahan’s “American Cars,” a track he wrote for his sister Sasha, describing her as the family’s problem‑solver.

After numerous fans tagged him in the comments, Kahan responded on Tuesday, writing: “I would never approve of my music being used to support you or this administration.”

Representatives for both Kahan and the White House did not immediately reply to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.

The Trump administration has increasingly drawn criticism from musicians for using their songs without permission. In July, Katy Perry denounced the administration after the White House’s TikTok feature paired her song “Firework” with footage of military strikes.

“I am deeply appalled and angry to see ‘Firework’ used as a backing track for military‑strike footage on the White House TikTok account,” the artist said on X. “I did not approve this use, I was not consulted, and I utterly condemn it.”

The month before, Ariana Grande urged the administration to cease using her music in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement TikTok video showing federal agents arresting and handcuffing individuals. In the video’s comment section she wrote: “Please never use my music in connection with this barbaric, inhumane, heinous conduct.”
