North Korea announced on Saturday that it had successfully tested a new AI‑powered torpedo system, part of an ongoing series of weapons demonstrations.

The state news agency KCNA reported that the test involved the “super‑speed, precisely guided” Zam‑2.0 torpedo system, which it said leverages artificial intelligence for target detection and guidance.

The report confirmed that the weapon’s propulsion systems performed as intended.

This test follows North Korea’s launch of two types of underwater‑launched strategic cruise missiles on Wednesday, an exercise seen as a move to enhance its naval capabilities; the launches are believed to have originated from a submarine.

In recent weeks, North Korea has conducted multiple ballistic missile tests, expanding its arsenal amid escalating tensions with South Korea.

In August, U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that North Korean leader Kim Jong‑un possesses “57 very powerful nuclear weapons,” while reaffirming his personal relationship with the North Korean leader.

“You know what, the fact that I get along with him, that’s a good thing not a bad thing,” Trump remarked, adding that Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal should “never” have been permitted to develop.

He said he plans to meet with Kim later this year, though he provided no further specifics on the meeting.

Earlier this month, Trump asserted that he is “on a constant basis” preventing a war between North and South Korea.
