Nottingham Forest Nearing Agreement for Chelsea Striker Liam Delap as Transfer Window Deadline Looms

Nottingham Forest have entered into advanced negotiations with Chelsea regarding a potential transfer for forward Liam Delap, with manager Oliver Glasner expressing intentions to secure additional reinforcements prior to the closure of the summer transfer window. The Reds are particularly focused on bolstering their attacking options and defensive line-up as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Delap, previously linked with Forest during his tenure at Ipswich Town, finds himself marginalized at Stamford Bridge under manager Xabi Alonso. The 23-year-old has been training separately from the senior squad and was notably absent from Chelsea’s matchday roster for their recent fixture against Fulham.

Glasner, who has introduced a three-central-defender system at Forest, is also exploring opportunities to reinforce the wing-back positions. “The club remains committed to strengthening our squad,” stated the Austrian coach. “We are confident that we can bring in two quality players that align with our ambitions.”

This summer, Forest have already expanded their roster with the signings of Ousmane Diomande, Xaver Schlager, and Steven Benda. Only Diomande’s move involved a transfer fee, valued at approximately £34 million from Sporting CP. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have intensified their pursuit of Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez, the Ecuadorian defender who previously caught their attention during Champions League competition. The club views him as a suitable replacement for Ezri Konsa. Despite an initial offer being turned down by Southampton for Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Villa continue their search for defensive reinforcement.

In other developments, Coventry City are advancing discussions to acquire Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock, which would mark their ninth signing of the summer transfer period. The 33-year-old defender, who transferred from Barnsley in 2019, featured sparingly for Brentford last season with only four league appearances. Additionally, Sunderland have completed the signing of midfielder Jules Ahoka from Royal Antwerp, with the deal reportedly valued at around £8 million.
