New Zealand Cricket has unveiled its 17-player women’s central contract list for the 2026-27 season, welcoming Flora Devonshire, Nensi Patel, and Izzy Sharp into the fold. The newcomers join a seasoned core steered by captain Melie Kerr, alongside established players including Izzy Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, and Georgia Plimmer.
Devonshire and Sharp secure their spots following a successful tenure in the NZC Central Players of Interest programme, a strategic pathway designed to fast-track the development of the nation’s most promising athletes.
The additions come as the squad undergoes a significant generational shift. Suzie Bates, Lauren Down, and Lea Tahuhu have been removed from the list, with Down having already retired and Bates and Tahuhu expected to step away following the Women’s T20 World Cup. Veteran Sophie Devine, who operated under a casual agreement last season, is also absent from the contracted group as she prepares for retirement.
“Flora is a clean striker with significant power,” noted New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer. “As a left-hander, she provides a strategic advantage by hitting different areas of the field, complemented by her useful left-arm orthodox bowling. Nensi has shown consistent accuracy and excellent control over her length and pace.”
“Izzy’s batting has progressed remarkably. She shares similar attributes with Sophie, and with Sophie’s impending retirement, it is exciting to bring someone of Izzy’s power into the central contract group to further refine those skills,” Sawyer added.
Devonshire, a left-arm all-rounder representing Central Districts, made her international debut in March 2025 and has since been selected for two World Cup squads.
Nensi Patel returns to the central contract list after previously holding one in 2022-23. The Northern Districts spin-bowling all-rounder has enjoyed a stellar start to her international career since her February debut, claiming 14 T20I wickets with an impressive average of 9.8 and an economy rate of 4.04. She further cemented her form ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup with a dominant performance of 4 for 18 against Bangladesh in a warm-up fixture.
Izzy Sharp, a powerful right-hand batter from Timaru, previously captained New Zealand at the inaugural Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023. A cornerstone of the Canterbury Magicians, Sharp led her team’s scoring during the 2025-26 Super Smash season, averaging 30 with a strike rate of 128.
Additionally, left-arm spinner Fran Jonas has retained her contract following her recent appearances for New Zealand A during their tour of Sri Lanka.
