Ogilvy Adds Christiaan Bezuidenhout for Presidents Cup Experience

U.S. captain Bryant Shneadeker and International skipper Geoff Ogilvy have announced their six selections for the upcoming Presidents Cup.

The International side enters the competition as underdogs. After posting one win, one tie and 13 losses this season, they face an uphill battle to close the gap with the United States.

Ogilvy’s six picks are designed to reinforce a deep roster of world‑class talent. Si Woo Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, Ryan Fox, Tom Kim, Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott qualified automatically through the ranking system, while Ogilvy added Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Corey Conners, Nico Echavarria, Sungjae Im, Ryo Hisatsune and Nick Taylor to complete the squad.

Bezuidenhout emerged as the most surprising name on the list. The two‑time Presidents Cup veteran recorded two top‑10 finishes this year—one at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic and another at the Puerto Rico Open—showcasing his consistency. He competed in 21 events and made 18 cuts.

“Christiaan has experience in this event that would have been difficult to leave on the table. He’s earned 3.5 points in five matches, including two Singles victories. He knows what to expect and he delivers. That’s why I’ve selected him,” Ogilvy said on PGATour.com.

Beyond his finishes, Bezuidenhout remains statistically strong. He ranks 24th in Strokes Gained: Total, placing him ahead of teammates Min Woo Lee, Adam Scott, Ryo Hisatsune, Sungjae Im, Ryan Fox, Corey Conners, Nico Echavarria and Nick Taylor.

In four‑ball, foursomes and match‑play formats, birdies, approach play and putting are essential. This season Bezuidenhout finished 26th in approach, 16th in putting and 38th in total birdies.

“I was on the bubble as far as getting the call, whether I was in or out. To get the call from Geoff was awesome,” Bezuidenhout said in an interview with Golf Channel. “You’re not playing for your captain, your assistant captain, your country and The Shield.”

Bezuidenhout brings a solid track record to the event. Across his previous two Presidents Cups he posted a 3‑1‑1 overall record, including a 2‑0 mark in singles. Ogilvy highlighted both the player’s成績 and his energetic personality as decisive factors in the selection.

“The record and the personality, absolutely,” Ogilvy said during the same interview.

This year’s lineup presents new challenges. Bezuidenhout’s match‑play victories previously came against Kevin Kisner (2022) and Brian Harman (2024). While it is unlikely he will face world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, he will be a formidable opponent for many members of the U.S. squad.
