As most of the songs featured on Olivia Rodrigo’s new album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love fall from where they debuted last week, “Expectations” rises. Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love maintains its dominant position at the top of the Billboard charts, securing a second consecutive week at No. 1. The set has claimed all six major chart positions it currently occupies, with potential for continued success depending on market dynamics and emerging competition.
Following the album’s launch, numerous tracks simultaneously entered various chart categories. While several songs had previously been released as singles, Rodrigo withheld the full tracklist until the album’s official release, resulting in widespread chart presence across rock, alternative, and mainstream rankings, including the Billboard Hot 100.
Despite maintaining its No. 1 position, not all tracks remain static in their chart performance. Most album cuts have descended on genre-specific rankings, with only one standout track generating significant fan enthusiasm.
Olivia Rodrigo’s “Expectations” Emerges as Fan Favorite
Eight tracks from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love appear across three key Billboard charts: the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, and Alternative Streaming Songs lists. “The Cure,” “Maggots for Brains,” “Expectations,” “My Way,” “What’s Wrong with Me” (featuring Robert Smith), “U + Me = <3," "Cigarette Smoke," and "Purple" currently populate these rankings. While most tracks have declined since their initial chart entries, "Expectations" continues to defy the trend.
“Expectations” Achieves New Peak Positions
In its second week on Billboard charts, “Expectations” shows mixed movement on overall rankings but achieves new heights on genre-specific lists. The track climbs from No. 6 to No. 4 on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart, while simultaneously improving by one position to No. 6 on both the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts.
“Expectations” Matches Rodrigo’s Career-High Performance
On the Alternative Streaming Songs chart, “Expectations” joins “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl” and “What’s Wrong with Me” as Rodrigo’s ninth-highest-charting singles. On the Hot Alternative Songs tally, it ranks alongside “So American,” “Pretty Isn’t Pretty,” and “U + Me = <3" as her twelfth strongest performers. Additionally, the track reaches No. 11 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, matching "Love Is Embarrassing" while "U + Me = <3" drops, allowing further ascension for "Expectations."
“Drop Dead” Enters Top 10 on Pop Airplay Chart
“Expectations” remains the sole non-single track from the album to reach new peak positions this week, though it’s not the only song establishing personal bests. “Drop Dead,” the album’s first single released in mid-April, breaks into the top 10 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, moving from No. 11 to No. 10. This marks Rodrigo’s sixth top-10 presence on that chart. Meanwhile, “Drop Dead” climbs from No. 14 to No. 12 on the Radio Songs chart, which measures audience impressions across all radio stations nationwide.
