Omega Introduces a New Compact Moonwatch

The watch features a compact case, a sleek matte black dial with minimal complications, and a five‑link Moonwatch‑style bracelet. Its refined black aluminum bezel evokes the legendary Speedmaster Reduced of the late 1980s—a model the author has admired for years and always found perfectly balanced on the wrist.

Originally released in 1988, the Speedmaster Reduced measured 38.5 mm—a size slightly larger than the current 38 mm model. Notable differences include a lower, offset crown and the absence of the Dot‑over‑Ninety marker on the reduced bezel.

The most obvious cue that this is not a vintage reissue is the dial layout. The original Reduced placed the chronograph sub‑dials at 3 (running seconds), 6 (12‑hour totalizer) and 9 (30‑minute totalizer). In this 38 mm version the arrangement is reversed, mirroring the larger Moonwatch with the 30‑minute totalizer at 3 and running seconds at 9.

With its smaller case and shared design language, this new 38 mm black Speedmaster can best be described as a “mini Moonwatch,” blending iconic aesthetics with a more delicate profile that recalls the ’80s Reduced models. At a lower price point it becomes the most accessible black‑dial Moonwatch on the market—making wrist‑size a welcome advantage for those with slimmer hands.
