Celtic manager Martin O’Neill confirmed that Alistair Johnston experienced some discomfort again during his substitute appearance in the team’s 2-1 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road.
The 28-year-old Canadian international, who spent most of last season recovering from hamstring problems and has been sidelined since early August due to a recurrence of the injury, came on as a substitute and played for 21 minutes before being withdrawn.
“We’re not sure just at this moment,” O’Neill told BBC Scotland regarding the nature of Johnston’s condition.
“When you’ve had a couple of hamstring problems, I think that your concern is anything you might feel is a bit of a niggle.”
“I don’t know. He’s not sure, neither is the doctor at this minute. He’ll obviously need a scan and we’ll see how he is.”
In more positive news for O’Neill, central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers successfully completed the final 17 minutes of the match after coming on to replace Johnston. The American defender had been absent from action since mid-September.
“Of course, we need every single body back,” O’Neill stated.
“He seems to have come through the game OK. Delighted that the big players are back.”
