OpenAI Charts Course Toward AI for All, Pledges to Build Technology That Benefits Everyone]
AI for everyone equally?
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and chief scientist Jakub Pachocki have outlined the company’s future priorities in a new vision document titled ‘Built to benefit everyone,’ marking a shift from previous focus on AI model capabilities toward a values-driven approach.
Contrary to assumptions that full automation is the ultimate goal, Altman and Pachocki emphasized that their objective is not to automate everything, but to empower people to make better decisions as AI enhances their lives.
Their vision centers on three key initiatives:
- Building an automated AI researcher
- Accelerating the economy
- Delivering personal AGI to everyone on Earth
OpenAI estimates that by March 2028, AI systems will conduct a significant portion of the company’s research beyond its human team, helping navigate what they describe as a ‘post-AGI world.’
This approach assumes global consensus on AGI definitions, which vary across individuals and organizations. The announcement comes amid increasing competition in AI development, including recent advances from rival companies like Anthropic.
