More than 1,500 Hong Kong residents visited the renovated Huanggang Port border crossing on Sunday as authorities continued final preparations for its official opening.
A Security Bureau spokesperson confirmed that attendees traveled via franchised buses and cross-boundary coaches from various districts and were given guided tours of the new port facility.
“The event successfully deepened participants’ understanding of the public transport arrangements, immigration and customs clearance procedures, and passenger-friendly amenities at the port building,” the spokesperson noted.
City authorities carried out four drills in August, testing infrastructure and simulating emergency scenarios at the upgraded checkpoint linking Hong Kong and Shenzhen. A source indicated that officials were targeting an opening date as early as October 12.
