Islamabad – Pakistan on Tuesday condemned a ballistic missile attack launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia, reaffirming its support for the Kingdom’s security and urging dialogue and regional de‑escalation amid rising Middle‑East tensions.
The statement followed the Houthis’ claim that they fired missiles in retaliation for alleged Saudi strikes on an airport they control, thereby ending a four‑year truce that had largely kept Saudi Arabia out of direct conflict with the Iran‑aligned group.
Saudi authorities reported that they intercepted the missiles headed toward the kingdom’s southern region.
Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, told an emergency UN Security Council meeting that Pakistan strongly condemns the Houthi ballistic missile attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
We express full solidarity with the brotherly Saudi kingdom and reaffirm our steadfast support for its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
In September of last year, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a bilateral defense cooperation agreement stating that an armed attack on either nation would be considered an attack on both, reaffirming their commitment to mutual security cooperation.
Jadoon also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
He said a lasting settlement in Yemen can only be achieved through an indigenous peace process facilitated by the UN, warning that any further escalation would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the war‑torn country after years of conflict, displacement, and economic hardship.
The diplomat also condemned the Houthis’ continued arbitrary detention of UN personnel, humanitarian workers, and diplomatic staff, as well as the seizure of UN premises and assets, calling for their immediate and unconditional release.
He said Pakistan remains firmly committed to promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and regional de‑escalation, urging all parties to maintain communication channels, avoid actions that could heighten tensions, and pursue peaceful dispute resolution in line with the UN Charter and international law.
He added that Pakistan will continue to support all sincere efforts aimed at fostering peace, stability, and mutual understanding in the region.
