LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a fine on Pakistan on Monday for a slow over rate during the tri‑series final against Sri Lanka at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Pakistan secured a three‑wicket victory over Sri Lanka on Saturday, clinching their first one‑day international tri‑series title on home soil.
According to a statement from world cricket’s governing body, ICC match referee Jeff Crowe “found (Pakistan) to be one over short after time allowances were taken into consideration.”
As a result, Pakistan were penalised with a five‑percent deduction from their match fee.
Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi entered a guilty plea to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, thereby avoiding a formal hearing.
The charge was brought by on‑field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz.
England, who lost three of their four matches, finished third in the series held in Pakistan.
