[Pakistan and Sudan Forge New Security, Cyber‑Crime and Police‑Training Partnership]
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met his Sudanese counterpart Lt. Gen. Babeker Samra Mustafa Ali on Saturday, and both sides pledged to deepen cooperation in cybercrime, security, police training, and related areas, according to the Pakistani interior ministry.
Ali arrived in Islamabad this week and sat down with the government’s top leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
The Sudanese interior minister held delegation‑level talks with Naqvi in Islamabad on Saturday.
“Pakistan and Sudan agreed to expand cooperation in security, internal affairs, cyber‑crime, police training, institutional collaboration, NADRA, and related sectors,” the interior ministry stated.
“Both countries decided to sign a MoU to strengthen cooperation in the field of cybercrime.”
Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan is fully ready to provide every form of assistance to Sudan as it works toward peace and reconstruction.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been caught in conflict between the government forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which control much of western Darfur and have set up a parallel administration. The escalation has sparked fears of partition, with the United Nations Security Council and African Union rejecting the rival government.
With NADRA’s assistance, Pakistan’s official database and registration authority have issued 36 million citizenship cards, 9 million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500 000 death certificates in Sudan.
NADRA affirmed its readiness to further cooperate in the civil registration process moving forward.
In response to the Sudanese interior minister’s inquiry, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi ordered the authorities to promptly address visa issues affecting Sudanese women married to Pakistani citizens who reside in Pakistan.
Ali remarked that Pakistan is a brotherly nation and stressed that Sudan places high value on bilateral cooperation across all areas.
