ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has decided to bestow one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors upon Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), for his dedicated efforts in fostering interfaith harmony and strengthening cooperation within the Muslim Ummah, according to an official statement from the President’s office on Sunday.

As the head of the Makkah-based MWL—an independent organization representing diverse Islamic nations and sects—Dr. Al-Issa is widely regarded as a prominent global advocate for moderation, cultural dialogue, and interfaith coexistence.

“President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the conferment of the Nishan-e-Khidmat (Order of Service) on Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League,” the presidential office announced.

The award recognizes Dr. Al-Issa’s significant contributions to promoting religious moderation, fostering unity within the Muslim Ummah, and his exceptional service to the wider Islamic world.

In addition to this honor, the President has approved the decision for the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) to award Dr. Al-Issa an honorary doctorate in Islamic Studies and International Relations.

The Nishan-e-Khidmat, meaning “Order of Service,” is a prestigious national distinction presented to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding public service or made significant contributions to society.

Dr. Al-Issa has previously visited Pakistan to engage with senior government officials regarding strategies for promoting interfaith peace and addressing various issues of importance to the Muslim Ummah.
