ISLAMABAD (AP) — A Pakistani army training aircraft went down in the southwestern region of the country on Monday, resulting in the deaths of both pilots onboard, according to military officials.
The military stated that the crash involved a PAC MFI-17 Mushshak plane, which went down near the town of Nawan Killi in Balochistan province. Officials attributed the incident to a technical fault, though no further details have been provided.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended their condolences to the families of the deceased pilots.
Aircraft accidents during training exercises are not uncommon in Pakistan, where authorities typically refrain from disclosing detailed information regarding the causes of such incidents, and investigation reports are rarely made public. In June of this year, an air force plane crashed during routine training in the northwestern part of the country, also claiming the lives of both pilots.
