Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated on Thursday that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the Lucerne Summit have reaffirmed the belief that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective tools for the peaceful resolution of disputes and conflicts.
Speaking during a weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Andrabi highlighted Pakistan’s recent initiatives to broker peace between the United States and Iran.
Pakistan has taken a leading role in mediation efforts following US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February. Those events had triggered a broader conflict and a global fuel crisis, as Tehran implemented measures to disrupt maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for oil and gas supplies.
Significant milestones in Pakistan’s de-escalation efforts include the signing of the 14-point Islamabad MoU on June 18, designed to end the hostilities, and the “Lake Lucerne Summit” in Switzerland, where US and Iranian officials engaged in direct talks over the weekend.
Andrabi noted that Pakistan’s diplomatic contributions have garnered global recognition.
He expressed appreciation for the positive feedback and encouraging remarks from international partners and the global community regarding Pakistan’s constructive role in fostering regional peace and de-escalation.
“Such recognition reflects the international community’s trust in Pakistan, as well as Pakistan’s commitment to advancing dialogue, peace, security, and stability across the region and beyond,” Andrabi added.
