Pakistan’s military leadership has reaffirmed its resolve to combat terrorism rooted in cross-border activities, citing unwavering commitment to national security. Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir stated that the armed forces are fully cognizant of state-sponsored efforts by hostile intelligence agencies to destabilize the country, emphasizing that such threats will be neutralized through the “full might of the state.”
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) quoted the CDF as saying these proxy networks cannot be permitted to compromise Pakistan’s internal security or economic progress. During a press briefing, ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reported that 27 police personnel, 11 security forces, and four civilians were killed in terrorist attacks and follow-up operations in Balochistan since July 5, with 54 militants eliminated in the same period.
Field Marshal Munir made these remarks at the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad while addressing graduates of the National Security and War Course, which included participants from all military services. He underscored the evolving nature of modern warfare, advocating for strategic precision and institutional professionalism in tackling multifaceted security challenges.
The CDF lauded institutions like NDU for cultivating future leaders capable of countering hybrid, conventional, and sub-conventional threats with foresight and determination. He emphasized that military success hinges on “faith, unity, and discipline,” not media rhetoric or political slogans.
Recent high-profile attacks in Balochistan include an armed assault near Quetta on July 5, an attack on a police post in Ziarat on July 6, and an ambush on an army convoy in Bela. However, data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicates a 31% decline in terrorist incidents in Balochistan during June, with 49 attacks compared to 71 in May.
