Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed on Monday for a one‑day trip to Qatar to convey his condolences following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

On the social platform X, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that PML‑N President Nawaz Sharif will accompany the Prime Minister on the visit.

The Prime Minister will meet with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and offer condolences for the passing of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the PMO stated.

The PMO emphasized that the visit underscores the decades‑long, close fraternal ties between Qatar’s royal family, Qatari citizens, and Pakistan’s government and people.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, will also travel with the Prime Minister.

Qatar announced on Sunday that its former Emir, who ruled from 1995 to 2013, had passed away at the age of 74, according to an official government statement.

Sheikh Hamad is widely recognized as a principal architect of modern Qatar, having guided the nation through a period of rapid economic expansion and transformation.

Pakistan subsequently announced that a national day of mourning would be observed today.

The national flag will be flown at half‑mast nationwide, as per a notification issued by the Cabinet Division and shared by the PMO on Sunday.

The Premier is also expected to discuss the recent escalation of attacks between the United States and Iran, which has set back regional peace initiatives led by Pakistan and Qatar.
