A Paris court on Tuesday sentenced a former school aide to one year of house arrest with an ankle monitor for sexually assaulting primary schoolchildren under his supervision.

The sentence represents the most severe penalty handed down since a wave of allegations involving sexual and physical violence emerged in recent months against city‑employed monitors responsible for supervising children at school.

Michael M., 38, admitted during his trial to sexually assaulting nine children aged five to ten between September 2022 and January 2024, and apologized for “what had happened”.

The court imposed a five‑year prison term, four years of which were suspended, and banned him from any future employment involving children.
