Thousands gathered across France on Saturday to express anger toward the government, resulting in clashes between police and demonstrators in Paris, even as overall attendance fell compared to earlier weeks.
These demonstrations represent the fourth straight weekend of protests against the rising cost of living, occurring as France approaches presidential elections in five months—a period in which the far‑right sees its strongest opportunity yet to seize power.
The interior ministry reported 146,000 participants nationwide, including 46,000 in Paris. Unions estimated the total at 250,000, with 75,000 protesting in the capital.
