The Los Angeles Chargers have added a familiar face to their practice squad, signing tight end Patrick Herbert on Monday. The move reunites Patrick with his older sibling, quarterback Justin Herbert, marking the first time the two have practiced as professionals since their time together at the University of Oregon in 2019.
Patrick, 25, was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday before finding a new opportunity in Los Angeles. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Jacksonville last year and spent his entire rookie season on the team’s practice squad before remaining with the organization through the recent offseason.
The younger Herbert spent six seasons in college, playing for the Oregon Ducks from 2019 through 2024. As a freshman, he appeared in two games during a memorable 2019 season in which Justin led the Ducks to a 12-2 record and a Rose Bowl victory. Over the course of his collegiate career, Patrick recorded 31 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns.
