New England Patriots delivered a standout performance in Week 4, defeating the Buffalo Bills 29–26 while stifling one of the NFL’s most productive tight ends, Dalton Kincaid.
Head coach Mike Vrabel praised his defense’s disciplined coverage, which limited Kincaid to a single reception for seven yards. The Patriots improved to a 2–2 record with the win.
Vrabel warned that Sunday’s opponent, the Las Vegas Raiders, will present a far greater challenge in the form of star tight end Brock Bowers.
“Brock is as elite as they come at that position,” Vrabel said. “We’ll have a huge challenge.”
Patriots’ Game Plan Against Elite Tight Ends
Vrabel credited a combination of zone and man coverage for the success against Kincaid, who entered the game leading NFL tight ends with 263 receiving yards.
Safety Kevin Byard anchored the backfield, breaking up an early Josh Allen pass intended for Kincaid. Linebacker Robert Spillane and outside linebacker Dre’Mont Jones disrupted routes and limited Buffalo’s passing options.
Brock Bowers’ Impact and Rankings
Bowers has quickly emerged as one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons. He holds 192 career receptions, surpassing Jason Witten’s record for the most catches by a tight end under 24. Bowers also reaches 2,076 receiving yards, tying Kellen Winslow Sr. as the second‑fastest tight end to surpass 2,000 yards.
Las Vegas enters the matchup at 3–1, with Bowers and fellow tight end Michael Mayer central to the Raiders’ offensive success.
New England must replicate the defensive cohesion that contained Kincaid if they hope to stay atop the AFC East. Limiting Bowers will be critical for a potential statement victory.
