Tom Pidcock revealed he nearly quit the Tre Valli Varesine after two teammates were struck by a police motorcyclist.
Pinarello-Q36.5 teammates Marcel Camprubi and Thomas Gloag were hit with six laps remaining on the finishing circuit. Jarno Widar won the race, with Pidcock finishing second.
“A police motorbike was going the wrong way down the course and crashed into two of our guys,” Pidcock said. “First of all I wanted to stop racing myself – I was furious. I had riders ahead of me – for me – and two of them were on the floor.”
“Luckily Marcel was OK and could continue. Tom was also OK in the end but stopped the race and required stitches to his knee. Things like this shouldn’t happen.”
