PML-N Strives to Secure Two-Thirds Majority in AJK Government Ahead of Elections

Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, stated on Saturday that the PML-N would establish the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) by securing a two-thirds majority.

He made these remarks during a rally in Bagh ahead of the third phase of the elections. This phase was originally slated for the Poonch division but has been relocated to its Bagh and Haveli districts due to law and order concerns.

Sanaullah explained that the PML-N secured 24 seats in the first two phases. He noted that six additional seats are necessary to achieve a two-thirds majority government.

He claimed that the PML-N would secure four more seats following the August 10 polls, while five additional seats would be gained in the remainder of Poonch Division.

Sanaullah emphasized that the PML-N would govern with a two-thirds majority, highlighting that the people of Kashmir, including Mian Nawaz Sharif, have placed their trust in the party and its development initiatives in Punjab.

He urged supporters to vote on Monday to secure a victory for the PML-N, underscoring that the party will prioritize the development of projects.

He also noted that the PML-N government would hold engagement with members of the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). The JAAC, which has been organizing protests across the region against the demand to abolish 12 seats in the local legislature reserved for refugees from Indian-held Kashmir, has been holding protests for several weeks.

“Once the government is formed with a two-thirds majority, it will engage with JAAC representatives, with the first priority being the resolution of this issue,” he stated.

He highlighted that approximately 99 percent of the JAAC protesters are “our brothers,” identifying them as patriotic Kashmiris and Pakistanis, while the remaining participants are focused on dividing the nation.

He urged cooperation between a future PML-N government and the people of AJK to expose and defeat those divisive forces.

“We will defeat them and ensure prosperity for Kashmir,” Sanaullah declared.

He also pointed out that in the past, all large-scale development projects in AJK were successfully completed exclusively during the PML-N government’s rule in the Center and the region.

He urged the people of Bagh to participate in the voting on Monday, emphasizing that all sectors of Bagh should be actively involved in governance.

He added that PML-N founder Nawaz Sharif intends to fulfill his commitment to the people of AJK by nominating one of the three PML-N candidates in Bagh as the future prime minister of the region.

Sanaullah noted that Nawaz Sharif has already communicated his willingness to meet with the future prime minister of AJK to discuss development projects in the region.

Highlighting federal support, he noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government approved a Rs 23 billion special package for AJK in 2024 and provided wheat subsidies to assist the people.

He added that the Prime Minister had also approved five Daanish Schools for AJK, while the PML-N intends to advance the public welfare and development model being pursued in Punjab.
