Poland remains among Europe’s most restrictive jurisdictions regarding LGBTQ+ rights, as same‑sex marriage and civil partnerships are not permitted domestically. However, as of late May, the country began recognizing same‑sex marriages solemnized abroad. This shift follows a ruling by the European Court of Justice determining that Poland violated EU free‑movement principles by attempting to revoke rights acquired by couples in other member states. Consequently, many Polish same‑sex couples have been arranging weddings overseas. FRANCE 24’s Adrien Sarlat reports, in collaboration with Gulliver Cragg.
