Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that a man accused of plotting an assassination attempt against him and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz has been taken into custody.
The Interior Ministry previously disclosed that police had received credible intelligence regarding potential attacks on the two leaders. In response, security services held an emergency meeting on Sunday, with a spokesman characterizing the threat as “deadly serious.”
Tusk expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their “swift and decisive action” in apprehending the suspect. The arrest took place in the Lower Silesia region; the detainee, identified as Polish national Jacek Dobrzynski, was named by a spokesman for the Special Services Coordinator.
“In this case we are talking about a strong likelihood that these threats could actually be carried out,” the spokesman stated.
The plot came to light after an email containing information about the potential attack was forwarded to police by the State Protection Service, the agency responsible for ministerial security, according to Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka.
Tusk has served as Prime Minister since 2023, following an earlier term from 2007 to 2014. He also held the position of President of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
