Prediction market platform Polymarket is positioning itself for what industry experts anticipate will be a bustling fall season for event contract trading by strengthening its executive team and revamping its marketing approach.

The company has appointed Travis VanderZanden, founder of the e-scooter startup Bird launched in 2017, as its chief growth officer. VanderZanden brings extensive experience from his tenure at Uber Technologies and Lyft, both of which are referenced in the accompanying documentation.

Shayne Coplan, chief executive officer of Polymarket, “is the visionary of the prediction market space, and this is a massive market opportunity,” VanderZanden stated in an interview with CNBC. “It’s an exciting time to come in as we build out the executive team to help guide the next stage and make sure we’re buttoned up for the long haul.”

Bloomberg was the first to report on VanderZanden’s appointment last week.

In addition to his role in growth initiatives, VanderZanden will assume responsibility for overseeing Polymarket’s marketing operations, according to a source familiar with the matter. This domain had recently attracted regulatory attention following a Wall Street Journal investigation that alleged the company engaged in misleading marketing practices.

The Journal reported that Polymarket orchestrated scenarios where affiliated content creators appeared to be achieving success on the platform, despite not investing their own capital. These allegations prompted an investigation by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the federal body responsible for overseeing prediction markets.

To address these concerns, Polymarket has introduced a restructured marketing team hierarchy under VanderZanden’s leadership, revised its promotional partner guidelines, and conducted internal training programs to educate employees about the updated policies. Additionally, the company is collaborating with an external consulting firm to supervise content produced by promotional partners and ensure adherence to the revised standards, as noted by the source.

Further strengthening its leadership bench for 2026, Polymarket has welcomed several experienced professionals to key positions.

Megan McGrath, previously with Robinhood, has taken on the role of chief compliance officer for Polymarket’s U.S. exchange, while Natalie Oblazny, formerly of Coinbase, leads regulatory affairs for the domestic platform. Polymarket’s U.S. exchange was launched in May and functions independently from its international counterpart.

The company has also recruited Shana Bautista, a former FBI official with experience at Coinbase, as its global head of investigations and intelligence. Paul Jordan, joining from Nasdaq, will serve as the chief risk officer for Polymarket U.S.

These additions come as prediction market platforms brace for increased activity driven by two significant events this fall: the commencement of the NFL season in September and the approaching midterm elections in November. Both occurrences are projected to drive higher trading volumes, rebounding from the decline observed after the conclusion of the World Cup in July.
