Potential Ishan Kishan–Jitesh Sharma Trade Advanced Ahead of IPL 2027 – Report

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the 2016 IPL champions, are reportedly in talks with defending title‑holders Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) about a possible player swap ahead of the 2027 season. The franchise is said to be considering acquiring RCB’s wicketkeeper‑cum‑finisher Jitesh Sharma while releasing its vice‑captain Ishan Kishan.

Negotiations are ongoing, with both sides expected to reach a decision soon. RCB is also exploring the addition of Kishan to bolster its lower middle‑order and find an aggressive left‑handed opener. The reported discussions involve a potential exchange of the two players between SRH and RCB.

The speculation has, however, sparked backlash from SRH fans, many of whom argue that trading a leading performer like Kishan for a player who had a disappointing previous season would be illogical and unlikely.

IPL 2026 Performances: Kishan vs. Sharma

Kishan enjoyed a standout campaign in IPL 2026, scoring 602 runs from 15 matches at an average of 40.13, cementing his status as a key batter for SRH. By contrast, Sharma struggled, managing only 116 runs in 12 innings at an average of 12.89, prompting questions about the rationale behind the potential trade.

RCB entered IPL 2026 as defending champions, having secured back‑to‑back titles and defeating Gujarat Titans in the final. SRH also performed well during the league stage, winning nine of their 14 matches and finishing with the same number of victories as RCB, but missed a top‑two spot due to an inferior net run‑rate before falling to Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator.
