Power Failure Disrupts Water Supply at Gatwick Airport, Suspending Restroom Services and Dining Options

LONDON — A power outage at a water treatment facility in southeast England disabled restroom facilities and forced the closure of eateries at Gatwick Airport on Sunday.

The airport, located south of London, issued an apology on X to passengers using both terminals for the inconvenience caused.

SES Water announced it is restoring service after a power outage at its Bough Beech Water Treatment Works led to a pressure drop and temporary water loss for some customers in Kent and Sussex.

The airport said it was providing bottled water, though some passengers questioned the adequacy of the supply.

Paul Lee, a passenger at the airport, said he had not received any information about the disruption nor observed any bottled water being handed out.

Michael Dugher, a former Member of Parliament, posted on social media that the closure of bars and restaurants had left passengers sitting on the floor due to insufficient seating, and he called on the airport to open additional spaces to provide more seating options.
