Power Outage at Karachi’s Dhabeji Station Threatens Major Water Supply Reduction]
KARACHI: A power failure at the Dhabeji Pumping Station disrupted operations at the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Tuesday, potentially reducing the city’s daily water supply by approximately 100 million gallons.
A KWSC spokesperson reported that the electricity outage impacted the K-2 Pump House, causing faults in the manifold chamber and main valves.
“Emergency repair work is progressing at full speed to remove accumulated water from the affected valves, after which immediate restoration of the system will begin,” the spokesperson stated.
The utility has deployed engineers and maintenance crews to the site to quickly identify and resolve the technical issue.
Three primary pumps at the K-2 Pumping Station have been temporarily taken offline due to the malfunction, resulting in the projected reduction in water supply.
Under normal conditions, Karachi receives approximately 650 million gallons of water daily.
The KWSC indicated that the temporary shortfall could affect several areas, including North Nazimabad, Federal B. Area, Buffer Zone, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 13-D, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, and parts of Scheme 33.
“Water supply to these localities may remain suspended until repairs are completed,” the spokesperson warned.
