President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to undertake a four‑day official visit to Kyrgyzstan beginning Monday, as announced by the Foreign Office.
He will be accompanied by a high‑level delegation and the visit has been invited by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov.
This marks the first visit by a Pakistani president to the Kyrgyz Republic in 21 years, representing a historic milestone in bilateral ties, the FO said.
The trip follows President Zhaparov’s successful visit to Pakistan in December 2025 and underscores the continued strengthening of high‑level engagement between the two nations.
During his stay, President Zardari will hold a bilateral meeting and delegation‑level talks with President Zhaparov.
The leaders will review the full scope of Pakistan‑Kyrgyzstan relations and discuss regional and international matters of mutual interest, the FO added.
Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, energy, mining, agriculture, textiles, the halal industry, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, the digital economy, education, tourism, and people‑to‑people exchanges.
President Zardari will also receive Kyrgyz parliamentary speaker Marlen Mamataliev for a courtesy call.
The FO emphasized that Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan share warm, fraternal relations rooted in shared history, culture, and common aspirations for peace, connectivity, and prosperity in Central and South Asia.
Beyond bilateral ties, both countries are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a ten‑nation Eurasian body that includes China, Russia, India, and Iran.
The two nations, together with Tajikistan and Afghanistan, have been working on the $1.2 billion Central Asia‑South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA‑1000), projected to become operational by January 2027, according to a Tajik minister.
Zhaparov described CASA‑1000 as a cornerstone for establishing a unified energy system linking Central and South Asia.
When President Zhaparov visited Islamabad for two days in December 2025, it marked the first visit by a Kyrgyz president to Pakistan in 20 years.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered landlocked Kyrgyzstan access to regional and global markets via Pakistan’s ports of Karachi, Bin Qasim, and Gwadar.
Islamabad and Bishkek signed 15 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering commerce, energy, health, and other sectors to enhance bilateral cooperation.
In August of last year, the two countries agreed to promote cooperation in cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and digital finance.
A month earlier, they reaffirmed an agreement to increase bilateral trade to $100 million during a session of their intergovernmental commission.
Pakistan’s exports to Kyrgyzstan reached $3.124 million in the first ten months of the 2025‑26 fiscal year, reflecting a 7.44 percent decline from the same period last year.
Imports from Kyrgyzstan totaled $0.626 million, up from $0.493 million in the previous fiscal cycle.
