President Asif Ali Zardari summoned a session of the National Assembly for June 10 at 5 p.m. in Parliament House.
“The President has summoned the National Assembly session for Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 5 p.m. in Parliament House, exercising the powers conferred under Article 54, Clause 1 of the Constitution, according to the notification.”
This will be the 28th session of the 16th National Assembly, according to the notification.
President Zardari also summoned a Senate session for 4 p.m. on June 10, as announced on the president’s official social‑media account.
A source from the National Assembly Secretariat told Dawn that both sessions are budget sessions for fiscal year 2026‑27, and the budget is expected to be presented on June 12.
The sessions were convened to finalize budget arrangements and to prepare members ahead of the presentation.
Under Article 63, Members of the National Assembly could be disqualified if they abstain from voting on the budget.
Article 63 states: “Disqualification on grounds of defection, etc. (1) If a member of a Parliamentary Party composed of a single political party in a House — (a) resigns from membership of his political party or joins another Parliamentary Party; or (b) votes or abstains from voting in the House contrary to any direction issued by the Parliamentary Party to which he belongs, in relations to — (i) election of the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister; or (ii) a vote of confidence or a vote of no‑confidence; or (iii) a Money Bill or a Constitution (Amendment) Bill; he may be declared in writing by the Party Head to have defected from the political party, and the party head may forward a copy of the declaration to the presiding officer and the Chief Election
Commissioner and shall similarly forward a copy thereof to the member concerned.”
Last week, the government announced that the federal budget for fiscal year 2025‑26 will be presented on June 10.
The meeting of the National Economic Council has yet to take place, and the Economic Survey has not been released.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the budget for fiscal year 2026‑27 is likely to be presented in Parliament on June 12, Friday.
He added that the summaries to convene budget sessions in the National Assembly and Senate on June 10 have been submitted to the presidency for approval.
Prior to his remarks, uncertainty surrounded the budget’s presentation date due to disagreements among the federal government, coalition partners, and provincial authorities over a demand exceeding Rs1 trillion for strategic needs.
The National Economic Council meeting was postponed for a third time on Monday, amid ongoing negotiations concerning the freezing of provincial shares in the federal divisible pool under the NFC Award.
The PML‑N‑led government and its ally, the PPP, reached a consensus on the broad framework of the federal budget on Monday.
Further delegation‑level consultations will continue to address remaining budgetary demands.
