Dundee have turned Dens Park into a fortress this season. The side held Rangers to a 2-2 draw and defeated Motherwell, Aberdeen, and Kilmarnock—this last in a dramatic final ten minutes on Wednesday—in league fixtures.
Hibernian remain the only team to claim all three points at Dundee’s home ground.
Pressley’s squad has also competed well away from home. They put in a strong performance at Celtic Park despite a 1-0 opening-day defeat and secured bragging rights in the city with a 2-0 victory at Tannadice.
Tactical adaptability and a relentless work ethic, mirroring their methodical manager, have underpinned this success. The players understand their roles and are expected to give maximum effort.
The 3-1 win over Kilmarnock exemplifies this approach. After falling behind 1-1 following Joe Hugill’s penalty and appearing to lose momentum, Dundee regrouped and reasserted control.
“The thing that really pleased me was after Kilmarnock scored and the momentum changed, we showed great resilience and determination and ran really hard,” Pressley told BBC Scotland.
“After the equaliser it is easy to feel sorry for yourselves. We didn’t and we got a really important three points.”
Pressley has also navigated the departure of key assets and significant injuries. Tony Yogane moved north to Aberdeen after proving effective on the left flank, while Luke Graham and Billy Koumetio left a sizable void in central defence. Cam Congreve has returned to parent club Swansea City.
The injury list has only grown. Veteran striker and club stalwart Simon Murray suffered a serious injury at the campaign’s outset. Joe Westley, who netted nine goals last season, has been sidelined for a month, while fellow forward Bobby Wales is also injured alongside Finlay Robertson and Jack Moorhouse.
To counteract these losses, Pressley has recruited astutely from the English market.
Matia Akinmombi made his Scottish debut this week. Fellow Bournemouth loanee Owen Bevan has added composure and quality to the defence, while Bradley Fink, on loan from Wycombe Wanderers, has contributed four goals in six appearances.
