Andy Burnham has affirmed the UK’s steadfast support for Ukraine ahead of his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday.
Zelensky will be the prime minister’s first overseas guest since assuming office a week ago, a move Downing Street says underscores the strength of UK‑Ukraine ties.
During a visit to a naval base, Burnham will announce that the UK will share the intellectual property behind its new Stone Cloak electronic warfare system, allowing Ukraine to manufacture it at scale.
The prime minister declared: “Britain stands with Ukraine, shoulder to shoulder, and our support remains unwavering. Russia should be under no illusion about our resolve, and we will not relent until we secure a lasting and just peace for Ukraine.”
He added: “Stone Cloak represents the finest home‑grown British innovation, proven on the front lines, and will be crucial to safeguarding the security of both nations.”
The electronic jammers, roughly the size of a tablet computer, are designed to prevent detection of any drones to which they are attached.
The Ministry of Defence has already supplied thousands of these devices to Ukrainian forces to strengthen their drone operations.
Downing Street said that after its deployment in Ukraine, the technology will be incorporated into the UK’s next generation of long‑range weapons.
This includes Project Brakestop, a government initiative to develop low‑cost cruise missiles—self‑propelled guided weapons that fly like conventional aircraft for most of their trajectory.
During Monday’s visit, the two leaders will also meet more than 200 Ukrainian service members who have spent the past three weeks participating in a maritime exercise in the UK.
Exercise Sea Breeze aims to enhance warfighting capabilities and improve counter‑mine measures in the Black Sea.
