Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met newly sworn‑in Gilgit‑Baltistan Chief Minister Advocate Amjad Hussain on Tuesday, affirming the federal government’s steadfast commitment to collaborate closely with the regional administration for the welfare of its residents.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) reports that the premier emphasized that the Centre is dedicated to working in partnership with the Gilgit‑Baltistan government “for the welfare and well‑being of the people of Gilgit‑Baltistan.” He congratulated Hussain on his inauguration and outlined the federal government’s plans to advance the region’s development across renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, health, education, and other critical sectors.
“Among the federal government’s projects, the top priorities include a 100‑megawatt solar initiative and the establishment of knowledge schools,” the statement quoted the premier as saying.
The Premier also highlighted that the federal administration is preparing to open a Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre in Gilgit, designed to provide accessible public services to residents.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, and Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema.
PPP’s Hussain was elected unopposed as chief minister on 22 June by the Gilgit‑Baltistan Assembly, forming a government with PML‑N support, echoing the federal coalition arrangement set after the early‑June elections.
