Prime Minister Shehbaz Introduces AI‑Driven Digitisation Platform to Modernise PMO Operations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a new AI‑powered digitisation platform for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Tuesday, aimed at phasing out paper‑based procedures in governance.

A statement released by the PMO on social media described the Prime Minister Office System (PMOS) as a transformative digital framework designed to “modernise governance” by capturing, communicating, monitoring and tracking every directive issued by the prime minister from issuance through implementation, verified completion and post‑action oversight.

During the launch ceremony at the PMO – attended by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and other senior officials – the prime minister received a comprehensive briefing on the AI‑powered platform and its objectives.

In his remarks, the prime minister instructed all relevant authorities to ensure a swift and complete implementation of the new digital system, announcing the phasing out of traditional paper‑based workflows.

“From today onwards, I will not expect any of you in my office with a file in your hand. Everything will be discussed through this mechanism,” the prime minister said.

He commended IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Secretary IT Zarrar Hasham Khan for their instrumental role in developing and operationalising the platform, the statement added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz called इस कि all ministries and departments to adopt the platform, emphasising its potential फ़े to markedly enhance the government’s service delivery and overall effectiveness.

At the ceremony, the prime minister was briefed that PMOS represents Pakistan’s first government platform to integrate AI at the core of decision‑making and implementation monitoring, heralded as a “trailblazer for the digital transformation of the federal government.”

According to the briefing, PMOS was developed to facilitate efficient communication of the prime minister’s directives across governmental machinery, while ensuring timely execution that adheres to established quality standards.

The system also serves_Record a secure, technology‑driven decision‑support platform, integrating analytics and structured data within a protected IT environment, the statement added.

Officials were briefed on how PMOS will enable continuous policy calibration by harnessing technological, human and financial resources more effectively to generate better economic outcomes.

By launching the platform at the PMO, the government intends to embed governance reforms at the highest level before extending them across the wider administrative structure, the statement said.

At the heart of the platform lies a comprehensive digital repository that records every directive issued by the prime minister, along with the entire chain of implementation, rendering PMOS both an institutional knowledge base and a permanent record of government decision‑making.

Unlike conventional government tracking systems, PMOS can read, classify and analyze directives via AI rather than merely storing them.

Last week, Pakistan became a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (Waico) after Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signed the agreement establishing the forum in Shanghai, China, according to the Foreign Office.

In February, Prime Minister Shehbaz announced a $1 billion investment in the country’s AI sector by 2030, aimed at building a future‑ready digital economy and empowering the nation’s youth.
