India kicked off the second T20I against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 24 with a commanding performance. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the visitors looked to capitalize on the conditions early in the innings.
Their strategy paid immediate dividends as India’s pace attack struck down the New Zealand top order during the Powerplay. Among those key breakthroughs was debutant Prince Yadav, who delivered a pinpoint ball to dismiss dangerous opener Finn Allen, adding momentum to India’s dominance.
Prince Yadav removes Finn Allen with precision bowling
Allen’s wicket fell in the sixth over when Prince unleashed a full delivery targeting the stumps. Attempting a paddle sweep, Allen failed to connect cleanly, allowing the ball to pass through and crash into leg stump. The impact sent the bails flying, leaving the batter visibly shaken.
Prince celebrated the breakthrough enthusiastically, having removed one of New Zealand’s most threatening players in only his first over of the series. Allen’s dismissal came after scoring 16 runs off 14 balls, including a six.

Glenn Phillips and Bevon Jacobs stabilize New Zealand post early collapse
Glenn Phillips and Bevon Jacobs mounted a resilient fightback, with Phillips contributing 70 runs off 43 deliveries, including four boundaries and four sixes. Jacobs added 58 runs from 46 balls, featuring five fours and a six. Their crucial century stand steadied the innings and shifted pressure back onto India’s bowlers.
Eventually, India broke the partnership in the 18th over when Arshdeep Singh dismissed Phillips, marking a personal milestone as the leading Indian bowler in T20Is for the calendar year. Nitish Kumar Reddy followed suit by removing Jacobs in the next over. Michael Bracewell gave a late surge with an unbeaten 10 off two deliveries, including a four and a six. New Zealand concluded their innings at 180/5, setting India a target of 181 runs at a required rate of 9.05 per over.
