Projectiles Strike Multiple Locations in Southern Iran’s Sirik, State Media Reports

Multiple areas across Sirik, a city in southern Iran, were struck by projectiles on Wednesday, according to Iranian state media.

Authorities have not yet released details on the damage caused or potential casualties from the attacks.

Sirik was among several regions targeted in U.S. military strikes against southern Iran earlier this month.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) previously asserted that its operations aimed at Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets, including air defense installations, radar systems, maritime infrastructure, communications networks, and mine-laying capabilities.

Iranian media reported explosions in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Ahvaz, and Aghajari during the U.S. operations.

A September 1 strike in Kuhestak, Sirik County, damaged a wedding celebration, resulting in four fatalities and at least 68 injuries. Weapons experts analyzed footage and images from the incident, concluding the explosion was likely caused by a direct U.S. missile impact, as reported by Reuters.

U.S. operations have focused on degrading Iranian capabilities designed to monitor the Strait of Hormuz and threaten maritime traffic in the critical waterway.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) recently estimated that U.S. strikes have substantially reduced Iran’s ability to conduct maritime surveillance and deploy mines in the region.

CENTCOM stated that U.S. forces have removed naval mines from the strait, with Admiral Brad Cooper affirming that the U.S. military has cleared a secure passage for vessels heading to the Persian Gulf, while noting Iran’s mine infrastructure has been “highly degraded.”

ISW predicts Iran will persist in efforts to rebuild its maritime surveillance and mine-laying capabilities.

The IRGC reported on Wednesday that its forces attacked two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, citing a U.S. strike on five Iranian tankers as justification.

The IRGC stated it targeted 10 ships navigating what it described as a “prohibited and unsafe” section of the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM confirmed Tuesday that it had destroyed five Iranian oil tankers after Iran attempted to attack U.S. Navy vessels.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Iran on Tuesday that the United States would continue targeting Iranian oil tankers in retaliation for attempted attacks on American warships.

The latest developments in Sirik occur amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States in the Persian Gulf region.
