Qatar Reports Productive Diplomatic Progress in US-Iran Mediated Discussions

The Qatari Foreign Ministry has announced that “positive progress” has been achieved regarding a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), following mediated discussions in Doha between US and Iranian delegations. According to reports from CNN on Wednesday, Qatari and Pakistani mediators facilitated the sessions.

The diplomatic efforts involved US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who arrived in Doha on Tuesday to conduct indirect talks. The US representatives are currently engaging with mediators rather than communicating directly with Iranian officials.

In Washington, President Trump characterized the Doha meetings as highly productive. “As far as things are going, the denuclearization of Iran is moving along well,” Trump remarked to reporters, adding, “They’ve had very good meetings and we’ll see.”

Despite these optimistic comments, sources indicated that the discussions remained technical in nature and did not address Iran’s nuclear program. The Qatari Foreign Ministry noted that the next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place following the funeral services for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which are expected to conclude around July 9.
