Rangers Ink Eeli Tolvanen to One-Year Deal Worth $1.5M AAV

On September 1, the New York Rangers officially announced the signing of forward Eeli Tolvanen to a one-year contract carrying a $1.5 million average annual value.

Tolvanen began his NHL career with the Nashville Predators, who selected him 30th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft. Over five seasons in Nashville, he appeared in 135 games, tallying 51 points. During the 2022-23 campaign, he was placed on waivers and subsequently claimed by the Seattle Kraken on December 12. Tolvanen went on to play 288 games with Seattle, producing 139 points during his tenure with the club.

Tolvanen Bolsters Rangers’ Forward Depth

Tolvanen is a skilled forward in his prime, recognized for his high hockey IQ and elite offensive instincts. He possesses a powerful and accurate shot, with a strong ability to identify and capitalize on scoring opportunities whenever the puck is on his stick in a dangerous area.

Capable of thriving in a middle-six role, Tolvanen is also equipped to absorb additional minutes when the Rangers’ top line requires a breather. Last season, he set a career high by averaging 16:03 of ice time per game. Since establishing himself as a full-time NHL player, he has consistently logged at least 13 minutes per night across every campaign.

The upcoming season presents several milestone opportunities for Tolvanen. Having already surpassed the 400-game mark in 2025-26, appearing in all 84 games next season would bring him to 500 career NHL contests. Additionally, he sits just 10 points shy of 200, eight goals away from 100, and two assists short of the century mark.
