The New York Rangers have signed defenseman Braden Schneider to a one-year contract valued at $5.5 million, as confirmed on Monday.
A 24-year-old restricted free agent, Schneider avoided a salary arbitration hearing after filing for arbitration on July 5, with no hearing date having been set.
Last season, Schneider recorded 18 points (two goals, 16 assists) across 82 games while logging a career-high average ice time of 20:27 per contest. He paced the Rangers with 140 blocked shots, ranked third in hits (163), and tied for fifth in takeaways (22).
Originally chosen by New York with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Schneider has amassed 87 points (20 goals, 67 assists) over 368 regular-season contests, along with six points (one goal, five assists) in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.
