Rawalpindi police announced on Sunday that they have apprehended the suspect accused of slashing the neck of an 18‑month‑old girl.

The injured child was transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for treatment of a neck wound and is now reported to be out of danger.

Shortly after the attack, Dhamial police filed an FIR based on the complaint of a detective foot constable (DFC), who said he responded immediately to an emergency call.

He recounted that upon arrival he discovered a one‑and‑a‑half‑year‑old girl who had been stabbed by an unidentified assailant, sustaining a neck wound.

He added that the injured girl was then taken to DHQ Hospital for medical care.

A police spokesman said the suspect who attacked the toddler was arrested within 24 hours. After being informed of the incident, the City Police Officer (CPO) intervened and ordered his immediate arrest. A case was registered on Saturday, prompting a search operation. The injured girl was taken to hospital, where her condition is now reported as out of danger.

The suspect was detained by SHO Dhamial and a team led by SP Saddar; he was later identified as a relative of the victim’s mother.

According to the spokesman, the suspect confessed that he attempted to kill the girl over a personal dispute, and said that any accomplices will also be apprehended.
